A day of fasting: a vacation for your tired, overworked, and under-appreciated body

Don't eat for a day

It sounds strange to most people, not eating for a day? how is that possible, your body needs the necessary nutrients every day? Nothing is less true. Fasting turns out to have many advantages. In this way of life you can think of intermittent fasting, where you eat in a time frame of 8 hours and do not eat 16 hours of the day. In addition, you also have fasting, where you do not eat for a whole day a week. Both have great advantages, but if you do not eat for a whole day, then there is a so-called holiday for your body and in particular the digestion.

The benefits of fasting at a glance:

  • The digestive system will settle down

  • You cleanse and detoxify your body

  • You will break your diet that probably wasn't optimal before

  • You will increase your mental clarity

  • You will cleanse and heal (stuck) emotional patterns

  • It will provide a feeling of physical lightness and a higher energy level

  • It will increase inner silence, which has a positive influence on the spiritual plane and the stress level in

  • the body

  • You will get better posture

  • You will sleep better

  • Your resistance will improve

  • You will be able to plan better because you are more focused

  • You will become more creative

  • You will be able to relax better

  • You will lose excess weight if necessary

  • Your insulin sensitivity is promoted

  • It is good for your immune system

  • It is good for cholesterol and triglyceride levels

Fasting is also a weapon against certain diseases

There is evidence that fasting also helps against multiple sclerosis muscle diseases and epilepsy. In addition, a lot of research has recently been done into intermittent fasting, which also found that there is much less inflammation and oxidative stress in the body. Your body gets used to what it takes in. If you eat a lot of (refined) carbohydrates every day, your body will get used to this and will call for food every two hours. This is partly because the body demands nutrients. If not enough of these come in, the body will keep asking for new food. If you use your body to not eat every 16 hours of the day and for example 8 hours a day, the metabolism will adapt to this and burn more fat in the time that you do not eat food. I also fast myself, I do not eat for a day every week and I try to maintain the periodic fast as much as possible.

My experience

I myself sometimes don't eat for a day. I do this because it makes me feel good. Intermittent fasting is also not strange to me. In addition, I try to improve my health as much as possible and I like to take on the challenge. You can find out which challenges I take on on the accompanying Youtube channel. In the dutch video below you can see how it went for me not to eat (fasting) for a day:
