Popeye is a famous character who makes you believe that spinach gives you extra strength. Of course we all know that strength is only due in the gym or in another strength sport. In contrast, spinach has healing effects on the human body. This makes the fuel of your body very happy!
Spinach is really a vitamin bomb. I eat or drink spinach twice a week. I do this by mixing it in a smoothie. I mix about 200 grams of frozen spinach cubes with two bananas and a splash of water. This is truly a treat for the taste buds. It contains vitamin K, this is not K for ''Kracht''(dutch) but a vitamin that is important for blood clotting and bone metabolism. In addition, it contains a lot of vitamin A that works for the maintenance of the resistance and anti-infection. Vitamin A also serves for skin and gum health, vision, and plays a role in body growth. Finally, it contains folic acid (vitamin B11), which is good for resistance, mood, memory and concentration.
Is nitrate from spinach dangerous with high consumption?
A while ago, ''Het Voedingscentrum'' from Holland made us believe that a high consumption of nitrate-rich vegetables, such as spinach, entails health risks. The advice was to eat such a nitrate-rich vegetable no more than twice a week. Fortunately, they have come back from that. According to Het Voedingscentrum, nitrate is converted into a substance that could be carcinogenic. Fortunately, we now know that this is not the case and even has anti-cancer effects!

Popeye eats canned spinach, this is of course not very sensible. Spinach is best eaten as fresh as possible, because then the vitamins are preserved as much as possible. What is a fact, however, is that frozen spinach is just as healthy. This is because the fresh spinach is frozen straight from the land. This makes it easy for me to go for frozen spinach. Finally, it is always a better idea to eat vegetables like spinach raw. When cooking spinach, nutrients are always lost.
